🥤 The Current State of Chaos: Hospitals, Heat, and Hydration

Hey guys, welcome back to Postcard #4!

I am currently writing this from a cozy corner of a totally different cafe down the road. Honestly, after pulling endless shifts behind my own coffee machine, sitting on this side of the counter and sipping an iced latte someone else had to sweat over feels like pure luxury.

To be completely real with you all, life has been an absolute whirlwind lately. I’ve spent the last few days dealing with some lovely hospital visits for ongoing girly issues—because apparently, my body decided right now was the prime time to throw a dramatic tantrum. Trying to navigate health stuff while grinding through hospitality shifts in this heat has been brutal.

🎓 The Big Week: Cap, Gown, and a Flight Out of Here

And as if hospital visits and coffee shifts weren't enough, my calendar is officially out of control: I graduate on Thursday, and then I’m off on holiday for two whole weeks!

I am so, so excited, but the timing is pure comedy. Between graduation prep, pre-holiday panic, trying to look presentable in a gown, and trying to stay upright, I need literally all the money I can get right now. Every single penny counts toward the immediate holiday fund—and, of course, the grand finale: Australia.

📮 The Australia Wardrobe Crisis

Which brings me to my next hurdle. As I stared at my suitcase trying to pack for two weeks away—and looking forward to Australia down the line—I hit a sudden, horrifying realization... I have literally nothing to wear for hot weather.

My current wardrobe is roughly 80% oversized hoodies, 15% coffee-stained work uniforms, and 5% raincoats. Classic UK.

Naturally, my first instinct was to open five different tabs of fast-fashion websites and add 20 cheap summer pieces to a basket. But then the SustainableGradTravels voice in my head chimed in—and honestly, so did my very tight, post-hospital bank account.

👗 The Great Vinted Hustle

Enter my new hyperfixation: buying and selling pre-loved clothes.

To fund the Oz trip, pay for this upcoming holiday, and clear out room in my wardrobe, I’ve spent my evenings listing half my life online. And look, I’m not gonna pretend I’m some ethical fashion saint here—I originally started doing it purely for the cash. But the more I do it, the more I realize second-hand buying and selling is quietly one of the easiest eco-wins out there.

Here’s the reality of my new side hustle:

  • Funding Sydney with Old Tops: Every time someone buys a shirt I haven't worn since 2022, that’s one less brand-new garment being manufactured, and £8 going straight into my travel fund. It’s a total win-win.

  • The Vinted Trap is Real: My biggest struggle right now? Trying NOT to immediately spend my earnings on other people's stuff. I went on there to sell a jacket and somehow emerged with three pre-loved linen shirts for Australia. At least buying second-hand keeps clothes out of landfills and saves serious cash!

  • Packaging Chaos: I am definitely not winning any aesthetic awards for my shipping boxes. If you buy from me, your top might arrive wrapped in a repurposed bread bag or a cereal box held together by sheer willpower and sellotape. Is it pretty? Absolutely not. Is it zero-waste? You bet it is.

🛍️ Keeping it Real: Sustainable Travel Wins

The point of all this? Prepping for a massive trip, graduating, or updating your style doesn't have to mean dropping hundreds on cheap clothes that fall apart after three washes.

Swapping, selling, and thrifting pre-loved stuff gives clothes a second life, saves you a fortune, and keeps your travel footprint a little lighter before you even step on the plane. You don't have to be perfect at it—you just have to give it a go.

Signing Off (Time for Parcel Drops)

Now, if you’ll excuse me, my coffee is finished, which means I have to go drop off four random cereal-box-wrapped parcels at the local corner shop, rest up my body, and get ready to put on a cap and gown on Thursday!

Wish me luck for graduation, and drop your best second-hand bargain finds in the comments—I need all the budget inspiration I can get!

Until the next postcard,

Miyah 💌
